1946
Horribly deformed in an
accident in college, a murderer known as The Creeper tracks down those he holds
responsible for his plight. Along the way he befriends a blind woman.
Meanwhile, the police close in.
Rondo Hatton stars in the
third and final film in The Creeper series, providing a backstory to his
character and featuring him as the main character for the first time.
Unfortunately he died of a heart attack before the film could be released, and
Universal, ashamed of exploiting him (or for who knows whatever other reason)
released the film quietly through an independent distributor, making this somewhat
of a Universal horror asterisk. Most say Hatton’s no good in the flick and it
has generally bad reviews, but I have to admit I liked it. Yeah, Hatton’s no
Olivier but there’s just something about him that’s hard not to like, and it’s
cool that he’s front-and-center for once.
