A mad doctor,
experimenting with ancient nerve gas used in suspended animation, experiments on
his mentee and assistant, who turns into an undead zombie. Able to force the
zombie to do his bidding, the mad doctor attempts to win over the heart of his
assistant’s girlfriend, with murderous results.
This was probably one of
the best among the movies I watched this year, not as great as the true
Universal horror classics, but way better than the more obscure ones, with an
interesting dynamic between the mad doctor, his unwilling assistant and the
various obstacles in their way. Of special note is the super engaging
performance by KING KONG’s Robert Armstrong as a reporter who knows something’s
up and tries to get a scoop. He meets an untimely demise, but he has all the
best scenes in the movie. Definitely worth a watch.
