A Naval expedition,
accompanied by a reporter, investigates a mysterious “warm spot” in the
Antarctic and becomes stranded in a forgotten jungle world infested with
prehistoric creatures. There, they find the lone survivor of a previous
expedition, who has gone mad.
At first glance this
flick is bigger and more ambitious than your average Universal horror of this
era – it’s in CinemaScope after all! But the cracks begin to show pretty early
on and eventually the proceedings reach a level of flat out goofiness when
we’re introduced to the not-so-special effects T-Rex who stars as our main monster.
There’s also footage of real lizards, blown up to look big. It’s the kind of
stuff you expect from B-grade… well, this is B-grade, so let’s say C-grade
movies. The premise sounds exciting but unfortunately the movie is mostly
boring.
